How the roof shingle calculator works
Roof area = footprint Γ pitch factor. Bundles = β (area Γ· 100) Γ 3 β
Shingles are sold by the βsquareβ (100 sq ft), and it takes about 3 bundles to cover one square. Your roof is bigger than its footprint because of the slope, so we multiply by a pitch factor (a 6-in-12 roof is about 1.12Γ its footprint).
Frequently asked questions
How many bundles of shingles per square?
Three bundles cover one square (100 sq ft) for standard architectural shingles.
How do I find my roof pitch?
Measure how many inches the roof rises over 12 inches of horizontal run. A 6-inch rise over 12 inches is a β6 in 12β pitch.
