How the board foot calculator works
Board feet = Thickness(in) × Width(in) × Length(ft) ÷ 12
One board foot equals 144 cubic inches of wood — a 1 in × 12 in × 1 ft piece. Hardwood is sold by the board foot, so this is how you price it. A 1×6 board 8 ft long is 4 board feet.
